MDL® Core Interface | Printer Friendly
As the middleware tier component of the MDL® Isentris® system, MDL® Core Interface provides essential services to assist system administrators, application developers and database administrators in managing and supporting critical application workflows for scientific researchers. MDL Core Interface provides fast access to research data, project group support, application integration and extensibility for discovery informatics.
Key benefits and features:
  • Build consistent, high-quality applications quickly — An open application programming interface (API) and a common set of standard services can be shared by multiple discovery applications.
  • Create useful data views — Dynamic integrating and aggregating data source services enable scientists to view data as they like, independent of the underlying data organization in the data sources and/or data networks. This rich view preserves the hierarchical relationships of the data.
  • Find information easier — These new data views can be connected with other views and filtered to provide more efficient data access. Data can be pivoted and additional data fields can be calculated on-the-fly. Also Web-Services can be integrated into a data source.
For System Administrators

MDL Core Interface includes a Web-based administration console for managing user sessions, license tracking, security, database access, messaging, object storage and other common tasks. The MDL Core Interface services can be installed on Microsoft Windows, Sun Solaris and Linux (release 3.0).
For Application Developers

MDL Core Interface provides a common development environment for developers who want to extend MDL chemical and biological applications or create new ones. On the client side, the MDL Isentris development environment supports Java® and Microsoft® based development tools. On the middle tier, Isentris supports Java® tools and provides tight integration with Oracle® technology, enabling faster, more predictable research application development using standard tools and methods.

For Database Administrators

The Integrating Data Source (IDS) enables scientists to view data in a hierarchical presentation, independent of the underlying data organization in the data sources. The Aggregating Data Source (ADS) merges multiple data networks into a single representation, enabling researchers to search and view data across networks as if the data were in a single database. Dynamic data sources, based on IDS/ADS technology, enable chemists and biologists to configure and view data in optimal ways based on workflow requirements. Using the DataSource Builder graphical interface, DBAs can quickly create, select and modify data views without scripting.
